Princess Warrior

Everyone goes through trials and tribulations, even unbelievers.  The Bible says, “He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.” Matthew 5:45.  I’ve been through the ‘loss trial’.  I lost my dad over 8 years ago and that feeling of hurt broke my ‘feeling bones’ and broke my heart.  My heart is wounded and my soul is scarred.  The journey of grief made me a stronger woman in the Lord.  It was a long, tiresome path to regularity and a different happiness.  My dad was the rock of our family, but we have to remember God is our true rock. He is our deliverer from pain and suffering.  Dads on this vapor-like earth are for a moment in time.  We have to remember God is our heavenly, everlasting Father.

I have also felt the ‘abandonment tribulation’.  No, my mom and dad didn’t leave me on a cold doorstep, but many people on this ‘fleshly’ earth will hurt and disappoint you.  Feelings will arise of desertion.  As a human, you burden yourself by exploring the ‘crushed’ desert.  Broken promises grow on palms.  Lies of deceit will punch us in the trusting soul.  Trudge out of the ‘battered’ desert and look to God.  He is the only one that will never dishearten.  He has everything we thirst for in a desolate land: love, friendship, peace, salvation, but most of all, He is our Father.  He is true and faithful till the end of the age and beyond. People will always bruise and dissatisfy, but we have a friend in Jesus! HE is the one who will never leave or forsake you!

Princess Warrior

I stand upon ‘Mount foggy trial and fiery Tribulation’
My strengthened armor glowing with ambers and ash
of this earthly, vague land

Demons slink and sly
clamoring with daggers
gaining closeness into righteous soul
Backstabbing liars deceive, slither
in eerie, misty darkness they test with turmoil

But I, princess warrior, sit on beastly Friesian
Boldly, I clasp leather reigns, steady at the mane helm
Pine needles fall to fleshly ground from fright
Oak branches bend to meet thirsty Son

Smoke of wickedness billows
 towards hoofs of holy
Up tender leg to brave, taught withers

A war has risen amongst ‘Forest of Faith’
Stand firm my ‘soul steed’
Endure evil and black flames

Horns have sounded with cutting sharpness
Wind flicks fire-dust
Sooty wretchedness surrounds
Wait! My saving cross is heart bound!

Princess warrior, charge into ebon ravine!
Trample, snap foolish tongues!
Cut and pierce with saintly arrow!
Gallop with heavenly brashness
Stride with angelic soldiers

Holy Spirit engraved in shield
Sword molded with sharpened truth
Armor glistens with faithful fierceness
Come! Friesian of God’s realm
Let’s beat, flog, slay corrupt dragons
I, princess warrior, will rise!

  2. I've read your story and poem twice now. I love it. It feels like it's coming from the deepest part of your heart. Keep letting your stories tell your feelings because there lies your talent and it shows. I can even see you doing a daily blog and others relating to your feelings. And maybe that is where your talent will be discovered. And if your stories are helping you in some way, they may also help someone else !!!
Keep writing Brandy, I know this is your journey in life.

Pine Heart Roots

On a Friday afternoon, I packed the car and my mom and I drove down Sea Blue Lane.   Our destination was Pine Prairie, Louisiana.   Wheels rolled down blacktop while music notes rocked and rolled through the Malibu.   We sped through Lafayette and entered “Country Land”.   As I passed by horses, my eyes lit up with little girl joy, as usual.   Cows grazed as clouds speckled their backs.   The bayous were fading behind us as pine trees started to grow in their place.   The scenery was refreshing, renewing our minds with fresh crawfish waters.   We finally arrived at my cousin, Dana’s house and parked upon O’Banion territory.   I needed to strip my bark of “stress needles” and regrow peace around my “pine heart”.       I was feeling distant from my dad.   Year after year, the roughness I once felt on his hand was smoothing.   He is branded in my heart, but I needed that brand to be lit under fire ...

Country Bound

Country Bound I travel down a mellow, yellow sunflower road upon miniscule “wishing” pebbles.   A monument stands tall amiss sprightly wildflowers.   Rustic, red barn, tell me your wisdom, tell me your stories.   A split rail fence is my guide, built by thick, rough hands.   It dances to a patterned rhythm around a charming, pastel blue farmhouse.   I am country bound, my soul to be found. I pass by a field flowing with radiant corn.   Stalks stand tall, presiding over misty pastures.   Golden wheat is nuzzled with sunny rays.   It waltzes with the wind and tangos with blades of grass.   Hearts of farmers beat in rolling hills, growing “love soy seeds”. An apple pie sits on a crackled window sill cooling for attention.   Cinnamon swirls through a two-story house.   Maple beans, sweet greens, and cornbread overflow the Amish-built table.   Greens pop into savoring mouths.   Sugary beans candy-coat t...

Ice Skating Beyond the Wood

I once lived out in the country, beyond the babbling noise of car horns, banshee sirens, and life's marathons.  Those years were spent amongst the forest and foxes unseen.  Turkeys and bubbly bunnies were our woodland neighbors.  Milk cows jingled, jangled across the distant pasture.  Tawny deer sidled near the glistening pond, making neighbors with their shadows upon the ice.  God's peace nestled on the porch of our quaint "Ponderosa". My brother and I decided to go ice skating one December eve.  My dad, a bristly fellow, took up shovel and headed to our pond "beyond the wood".  He heaved and hoed, shoveling snow off the "present wrapped" ice.  Snow tipped oak branches where robins once perched.  Flurries floated, settling upon my hard-working dad.  My brother and I dressed as warm as puffy Eskimos.  We trudged and nudged through the white, pure land.  Hopping Jacque Cousteau (my dog), followed our ...
