Princess Warrior

Everyone goes through trials and tribulations, even unbelievers.  The Bible says, “He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.” Matthew 5:45.  I’ve been through the ‘loss trial’.  I lost my dad over 8 years ago and that feeling of hurt broke my ‘feeling bones’ and broke my heart.  My heart is wounded and my soul is scarred.  The journey of grief made me a stronger woman in the Lord.  It was a long, tiresome path to regularity and a different happiness.  My dad was the rock of our family, but we have to remember God is our true rock. He is our deliverer from pain and suffering.  Dads on this vapor-like earth are for a moment in time.  We have to remember God is our heavenly, everlasting Father.

I have also felt the ‘abandonment tribulation’.  No, my mom and dad didn’t leave me on a cold doorstep, but many people on this ‘fleshly’ earth will hurt and disappoint you.  Feelings will arise of desertion.  As a human, you burden yourself by exploring the ‘crushed’ desert.  Broken promises grow on palms.  Lies of deceit will punch us in the trusting soul.  Trudge out of the ‘battered’ desert and look to God.  He is the only one that will never dishearten.  He has everything we thirst for in a desolate land: love, friendship, peace, salvation, but most of all, He is our Father.  He is true and faithful till the end of the age and beyond. People will always bruise and dissatisfy, but we have a friend in Jesus! HE is the one who will never leave or forsake you!

Princess Warrior

I stand upon ‘Mount foggy trial and fiery Tribulation’
My strengthened armor glowing with ambers and ash
of this earthly, vague land

Demons slink and sly
clamoring with daggers
gaining closeness into righteous soul
Backstabbing liars deceive, slither
in eerie, misty darkness they test with turmoil

But I, princess warrior, sit on beastly Friesian
Boldly, I clasp leather reigns, steady at the mane helm
Pine needles fall to fleshly ground from fright
Oak branches bend to meet thirsty Son

Smoke of wickedness billows
 towards hoofs of holy
Up tender leg to brave, taught withers

A war has risen amongst ‘Forest of Faith’
Stand firm my ‘soul steed’
Endure evil and black flames

Horns have sounded with cutting sharpness
Wind flicks fire-dust
Sooty wretchedness surrounds
Wait! My saving cross is heart bound!

Princess warrior, charge into ebon ravine!
Trample, snap foolish tongues!
Cut and pierce with saintly arrow!
Gallop with heavenly brashness
Stride with angelic soldiers

Holy Spirit engraved in shield
Sword molded with sharpened truth
Armor glistens with faithful fierceness
Come! Friesian of God’s realm
Let’s beat, flog, slay corrupt dragons
I, princess warrior, will rise!

  2. I've read your story and poem twice now. I love it. It feels like it's coming from the deepest part of your heart. Keep letting your stories tell your feelings because there lies your talent and it shows. I can even see you doing a daily blog and others relating to your feelings. And maybe that is where your talent will be discovered. And if your stories are helping you in some way, they may also help someone else !!!
Keep writing Brandy, I know this is your journey in life.

"Memory Day" Memories

“Memory Day” Memories   August 11 th , 2008 will always be etched in my mind.   Why? Do you ask?   That was the day the leading man in my life went home, my dad, Bob J. O’Banion.   He was my encourager, support system, teacher, boulder, and most importantly, a godly leader.   When you needed a hand, both of his calloused hands were there to hug, shake, and give you a pat on the back.   When you needed Christian advice, his wisdom traveled from his can line to yours.   With the can pressed against your ear, you’d hear, “God is the way, the truth, and the light.”   He was a true definition of a man, a sovereign man.   Integrity made him a humble guide through the Blueridge Mountains, the dry desert, and beyond.   Love lined his face with deep canyon wrinkles.   He sought and dug ditches to provide.   The rooftop was his “day home”.   Sun-tanned skin branded him a “sweat by the brow” toiler.   Family sto...

Seasonal Change

The loss of my dad still hurts, especially when seasons change.  . For those who have lost a loved one, the aching still seems to pulsate through the cracks left upon our hearts.  . Seasonal change can breeze in bronzes of bereavement. It can fall with ambers of aches and molasses colored missing.  . For me, this is true about Autumn. The leaves change once again, and my dad’s memory wafts o’er red-roofed wishing wells. The shallow water collects pennies of “wish you were here” under Birch trees.  . Seasons and holidays blow in memories that patina the past.  . Those who have lost a parent, we think upon childhood memoirs. Instances where we held our mom or dad’s hands, while strolling under amber stained glass etched with maple leaves.  . I think upon harvest memories where the jack-o-lanterns flow, and the crockpot chili steams in bowls.  . My dad walks behind my brother and I as we prance towards candy. In seasonal memory “trick-or-treats” bounce of...

Climb the Rope of Hope

I have to admit, I’m feeling a dew drop of sadness today. I was supposed to go to a RV show with friends, but decided to stay home. Why did I stay home? I miss my dad. It’s been almost 12 years and I still ache for him. I miss his love and his godly guidance (I’m crying as I write this post). I couldn’t go trudge in and out of memories. I couldn’t go up and down steps of the past. My heart couldn’t bear the weight of camper-sized flashbacks.  When I was growing up, we were a band of gypsies, as my dad called us. We traveled the highway and byways of America in our RV. We’d laugh and play games. We’d have conversations about God’s beauty. We’d bond as a family, as a God braided clan. That bond has made me grieve a hard grief. That closeness clamors my heart with the dad category of love. I don’t grieve on a daily basis anymore. The wounds of loss have healed. The scar is not as prevalent. But, the missing still resides. The missing still dews rosy teardrops.  ...
